Well here is my tiny loot for an ‘above average’ event. As you can see from above, that’s pretty much it excluding the free bag you get when you walk through the door. The contents inside the bag contains a magazine, some promo stickers and a few leaflet of ads where I’m not even bothered to show you guys. It’s a waste of my effort and your reading time.

Day 1 coverage can be found here.

The next day came around before I even realised it. Sadly, today was the last day and there will be no more conventions in Sydney until next year. We don’t get much conventions here so I try to suck up the atmosphere before it all goes away at the end of the day.

Well, it’s that time of year again where the biggest Anime and Japanese culture festival descends on Sydney. I say it’s big because it’s the only convention that goes on twice a year and it’s always mid-year where it’s spread across both days on the weekend. What’s different about this year compared to the last previous years? New location and for the first time in Australia, one of the preliminary rounds of the World Cosplay Summit 2008 is held here in Sydney. I think the move was to cater more people and to allow additional space to display past and present cosplay outfits throughout the hall. More detail on that later on.

Well, as you may already know, there was hardly anything that caught my interest. As a figure fan, I was disappointed by the lack of figure stallholders available. On August 2nd 2008, I attended SMASH! for the first time this year. Well basically, SMASH! “The Sydney Manga and Anime Show” is a mini event celebrating Japanese animation and comic culture at the University of NSW in the Roundhouse. Like any other anime convention I’ve been too so far, this one was no different to the other as you would expect the usual like cosplays, gaming, stallholders, fanart and artist’s etc.
Considering it’s my first time here, I was pretty excited. The event began last year but I didn’t attend because I didn’t find out about until last month after the Supanova event. I’m glad I found out sooner because I would have missed this year as well if I didn’t.

Another year, another Supanova. Yep, its that time again where everybody gets together and enjoy a fun filled day of pop culture. As this is my 2nd Supanova, I’m surprised how much it has grown compared to 2 years ago since I first attended the event on 2006. Initially, I had plans to attend with my mate who had introduced me to this event but unfortunately he pulled out at the very last minute so that leaves me on my own at the event. Poor lonely me.
